Associate Director, OA Special Collections

Location: London / Hybrid 
Salary: £57,000 to £84,000 Basic + Benefits

Our client, a leading Academic publisher, requires a new Associate Director, OA Special Collections.

The OA Special Collections team is a new, dynamic team who are passionate about open-access special collections. The team consists of both Editorial and Marketing staff and is responsible for the development and growth of the special collection programme on our high-quality, gold OA STM journals.

They work closely with the wider Marketing and Editorial teams, including in-house Managing Editors and external Editors, to drive the success and long-term sustainability of the special collections programme.

You will be responsible for leading the strategic development of the gold OA journals special collections programme, with management responsibility for a cross-functional team of Editorial and Marketing staff. The role is responsible for defining and executing a strategic vision for the special collections programme (herein after referred to as the “product”), delivering on the vision and ensuring the product’s commercial success. Includes responsibility for managing and defining the product P&L, making recommendations about the future strategic direction of the product, refining the special collections business model and maintaining the quality of the special collections content published.

Skills & Experience: 

  • Experience in STM or Academic Publishing
  • Proven experience of strategic planning for a product or product lines.
  • Proven experience of developing and implementing operational workflows and processes.
  • Significant ability to lead a cross-functional team, lead decisions and bring people along with new ideas, during times of change.
  • Flexibility of thought and creativity to resolve complex problems, and an aptitude to drive new initiatives. Proven ability to thrive in an area of constant change.
  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to identify ways to use technology to solve problems.
