Our client is the leading, global sales & marketing agency for publishers around the world. Due to continued growth we are looking for a Commercial Manager Europe, who will be responsible for managing a team of 5 European sales representatives, and also take a lead in more complex consortia, corporate and OA negotiations across the whole region.

We need someone with an impressive track record of delivering sales growth. You will also be responsible for influencing and managing sales strategy, working cooperatively with the Marketing department to plan campaigns, attend exhibits, visit customer sites and coordinate support activities with Customer Service staff. Closing sales should be second nature, and you should see travelling as an important and enjoyable part of their activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 5 European sales reps, including all objective setting and development plans. Provide coaching and development as well as monitoring actual sales performance against targets
  • Working with the team to build new business through sales of publisher content across Europe
  • Develop robust sales plans for all publishers and coordinate sales and marketing activity across the region
  • To stay in touch frequently with publisher clients and work closely with them to shape sales strategy
  • To take personal responsibility for larger Consortia deals, National deals and multi-site corporate opportunities
  • To develop new transformative options for publisher including Publish & Read/Read & Publish deals
  • Build positive relations with major purchasing groups
  • Travel to major conferences and sales visits as necessary

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in library/publishing role or sales experience essential
  • Established network within the European library and consortia market
  • Fluent in one or more main European languages would be preferred
  • University degree preferred
  • Excellent negotiating, communication and presentation skills
  • Highly organised and detail oriented
