Our client, a leading STM Publisher, requires a new Director, Business Control – Publishing Performance, who will be part of the global Management Team and support the development of company strategies from a financial and operational control perspective.
You will translate the PP&I group strategy into an operational budget, reporting structure and control mechanism to ensure the delivery of the set operational goals across and within the PP&I group.
Working across 5 core business functions in the publishing performance group, the key group goal is to drive growth, especially in the OA area, by increasing the level of article transfers, commissioning of new collections and continuously improving editorial engagement. The underlying parameters to succeed are improvements in article submission levels, turnaround times, accept rates as well as publishing performance improvement by driving change and developing the editorial community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and manage the Business Control structure
- Define reporting structures for the group and underlying teams
- Recruit and manage two Business Control analysts
- Establish robust mechanisms for reporting on progress towards targets and goals
- Support the strategy development and implementation for the group
- Translate strategy in operational and financial planning and guide the execution of
- Establish Reporting, Dashboards, Controls and Alignment infrastructure
- Contribute actively to the Publishing Performance management team
- Operational & financial management and reporting
- Prepare and deliver monthly Business Review meetings
Skills & Experience:
- Proven ability to support strategy development – with strong financial and operational experience
- Translate and capture strategy into operational activity reporting, dashboards and control mechanisms
- Strong analytical skills, able to collect and analyze information to support business development and problem-solving
- Strong leadership abilities and natural style of assessing actual business performance versus set goals
- Motivated by and capable of detailed controlling, validating and aligning operational planning
- Track record of working across geographies and with different nationalities and cultures
- Experience with presenting to and working with senior (C-level) management
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build both internal and external relationships
- Flexibility to travel when needed
