Executive Editor, Chemistry Data & Databases

Location: UK/Cambridge 
Salary: £52,000 – £57,000 Basic

Our client, a leading society publisher, requires a new Executive Editor for Chemistry Data & Databases to help shape the future for how chemistry data is used in a developing world of Open Science and FAIR data.

You’ll be working with their teams and our community to help develop and implement the society's strategy for chemistry data, covering existing data products, as well as the society's activities in supporting the future creation, publication and reuse of chemistry data in a multidisciplinary world.

You will play a key strategic role within the department and are responsible for setting and implementing the product plan and roadmaps for the data and database products in line with the Publishing Strategy, particularly in association with the Head of Chemistry Data.

The successful candidate will have a high level of external contact with the researcher and chemical information communities and will use this market information to develop strategic priorities.

Skills & Experience:

  • A PhD in science (chemical science normally preferred) and/or demonstrable experience in a relevant scientific industry or scientific data/information-based role
  • Previous experience of team management/supervision with a proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Proven ability to influence effectively and engage with the beliefs and opinions of others at a senior level
  • Experience in Scientific, Technical & Medical publishing with up-to-date knowledge of, and passion for, the chemical sciences
  • Good organisational and time-management skills are required together
