Our client, a global scientific society, requires a new Publishing Manager for Japan to support and implement strategic objectives to develop new opportunities and build new strategic relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop the best authorship and readership for our journals and books in Japan, through personal contact, commissioning, attendance at conferences, etc
- Support the implementation of our publishing plans in Japan, in association with the Executive Editors, Books Commissioning Editors, Publishers and Editorial Boards
- Develop the Japanese membership of Editorial and Advisory Boards and Scientific/Associate Editors
- Support books commissioning activities in Japan in association with the Books Commissioning Editors
- Develop a network of key librarians and information specialists, working closely with colleagues
- Represent the society effectively, at a society level, during all external engagements
- Contribute to developing, communicating and implementing our publishing strategy for Japan, including journals, books and data resources
- Develop publishing relationships and agreements with learned societies or other partners as appropriate
- Build strategic relationships with companies, leading scientists, academic institutions and policy makers in Japan, with the aim of increasing influence and impact
Skills & Experience:
- Degree or PhD Educated.
- Experience in STM publishing, Scientific Research or Academia
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Contacts with the relevant communities
- Good organisational and time-management skills are required together with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
- Fluent in Japanese and English, both written and spoken
