We are seeking two Journal Development Editors to join the global STM Publisher, one in the UK and the other in Germany.
This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual to be part of a strategically relevant team and contribute to the development of best-in-class and scalable workflows in a rapidly evolving scientific publishing landscape.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Editor in overseeing the current journal portfolio, launching new titles, and acquiring international journals in the medical sciences.
- Execute journal development initiatives in line with the strategy and broader portfolio objectives.
- Drive content acquisition by implementing targeted journal commissioning plans.
- Monitor journal performance against set targets and key performance indicators (KPIs). Coordinate and support Editorial Board meetings, including preparation and follow-up.
- Handle administrative duties such as issuing invitations and managing contracts.
- Uphold publishing standards, ethics, and research integrity across all editorial processes.
- Serve as the primary contact for editors and authors, managing themed issues, timelines, and providing editorial office support.
- Conduct market research and assist the Executive Editor with data analysis and reporting to support data-driven journal management.
- Implement strategic initiatives, coordinate activities, and align priorities with both internal teams (peer review, production, marketing, finance, etc.) and external stakeholders (Editorial Boards).
- Represent the journal at official events such as conferences, award ceremonies, panel discussions, and meetings, as approved.
- Support digital outreach by managing social media platforms, creating newsletters, and updating website content.
- Collaborate with society partners, addressing their requirements and aligning with their workflows.
Skills & Experience:
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in life sciences or medicine preferred
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in journal development within international academic publishing; open access experience is a plus
- Strong analytical approach with a proven ability to work with KPIs and data-driven strategies
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English Proficiency in German is advantageous
- Excellent time management and self-organisation skills
- Collaborative team player with a strong sense of accountability and shared ownership
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools
- Highly motivated, with a readiness and willingness to travel as needed
