Our client, a leading STM Publisher, requires a Publishing Editor with expertise in chemistry to form part of a new team in London.

You will be responsible for the success of a defined set of journals within a broad discipline group and you must be comfortable in handling topics outside of your specialism. The primary goal of this role will be to develop a close working relationship with members of the academic editorial boards to further develop the journals within the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management: 

  • Be the key point of contact for your Academic Editors and build a close working relationship with them
  • Prioritise journals for development and create as well as implement a strategy plan
  • Ensure journals are represented in relevant indexing services and prepare journals for acceptance by additional services
  • Develop knowledge of the research areas of your portfolio and use this knowledge to actively identify journal development opportunities
  • Work alongside your Academic Editors to increase journal visibility, submissions, and reputation within the field
  • Increase visibility and citations through commissioning and appropriate marketing

Special Issue Development: 

  • With the assistance of the Editorial Board, assess special issue proposals submitted to the journals within your portfolio
  • Give guidance to the lead guest editors to refine their call for papers
  • Support the lead guest editors in promoting their call for papers to prospective authors
  • Compile reports on the status of the special issues within your portfolio
  • Explore and implement methods to promote special issues once they are published

Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in the publishing industry
  • Degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of peer review and the publishing process
  • An interest in Open Access publishing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail
  • A positive and proactive approach to problem-solving in daily tasks
  • Able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Experience of working in a start¬up and/or tech environment desirable

Reviewer Engagement Manager

Our client, a leading scientific publisher, requires a new Reviewer Engagement Manager. We are seeking applicants who enjoy keeping up to date with the latest biomedical research, are detail-oriented, have great customer-facing communication skills and previous experience in an outreach role.

The Reviewer Engagement Manager is accountable for design and delivery of best in class reviewer training and engagement programmes serving researchers across China; using a variety of research tools and skills to identify experts suitable to act as peer reviewers for international, cutting edge biomedical research. Strong data analysis skills are a prerequisite. The role will also include line-management of a small team, also based in Beijing.

Reporting to the UK-based Head of Reviewer Programmes, the Reviewer Engagement Manager will collaborate with global colleagues to present training online and in person, to organise reviewer training and engagement events, and to match reviewers with appropriate journals. You will work closely with sales, marketing and editorial colleagues to ensure approaches are aligned with both global departmental objectives and local strategic context.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, strategic development and growth of both journals through content acquisition initiatives, as well as building and leveraging strong relationships with the Editorial Boards of leading academics.

They will be responsible for pro-actively managing the journals’ performance and must show strong strategic direction to devise and implement editorial strategies to increase market share and build strong recognition for their portfolio, while creating new opportunities to drive key performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Engineering & Technology portfolio and deliver ambitious targets and objectives.
  • Drive journal growth and development through Editor engagement, article collections and section launches, informed by competitor and market analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with high-profile scholars and pro-actively manage the Editorial Boards.
  • Represent the company to external stakeholders and promote the portfolio at international conferences.
