Our client, a global STM Publisher, requires a new Senior Publisher for their Life Science portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Strategy & Management: Develop and execute strategic plans for the journal portfolio, including assessment of current assets and future growth opportunities through new launches or acquisitions.
- Journal Development: Lead and grow a key publishing program with a focus on open access, ensuring quality and scope align with market needs and corporate strategy.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop team members through clear communication, change management, time management, and conflict resolution.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee journal-level quality management, ensuring high editorial standards, adherence to publishing ethics, and robust service delivery.
- Performance Monitoring: Use data-driven insights to manage KPIs, ensuring ongoing portfolio performance in line with strategic goals.
- Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships within research communities, including editorial and advisory boards, and professional societies. Stay informed of industry trends to adapt portfolio strategies as needed.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across global offices with teams in Production, Marketing, Sales, and other departments.
Skills & Experience:
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s), ideally in life sciences or medicine
- At least 5 years of experience in international academic publishing
- Minimum 3 years of leadership and project management experience, including managing scientific journal portfolios and transitioning journals to open access
- Strong knowledge of publishing ethics, editorial standards, and operational best practices
- Strategic thinker with analytical skills and a commercially driven, entrepreneurial mindset
- Skilled negotiator and communicator, with fluency in English (German language skills are a plus)
- Highly collaborative with a strong sense of accountability and shared ownership of goals
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for conferences, site visits, and meetings
