AIP Publishing’s mission is to support the charitable, scientific and educational purposes of AIP through scholarly publishing activities in the fields of the physical and related sciences on its own behalf and on behalf of its publishing partners to help them proactively advance their missions.

AIP Publishing seeks an experienced and dynamic new Chief Executive Officer. The position is based in Melville New York. Relocation assistance is available. The AIP Publishing portfolio consists of 30 leading peer-reviewed journals covering a broad spectrum of the physical sciences, including titles from several publishing partners; in addition, an e-books program has recently been launched. AIP Publishing serves a global audience of authors, editors, reviewers, readers and library customers. With over 30,000 annual article submissions and almost 4000 library customers, AIP Publishing is a primary source of revenue for AIP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and enhance the mission of the parent organisation, AIP, by being a leading publisher in the physical sciences;
  • Develop and deliver AIP Publishing’s short and long-term strategy;
  • Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the company and deliver revenue and surplus targets;
  • Introduce new products and services to diversify current streams of revenue in response to market trends and customer needs;
  • Lead the organisation in addressing current market challenges and opportunities including:
    • sustain the current business model
    • grow Open Access
    • foster the Strategic Partnerships recently concluded with society partners
    • increase the number of publishing partners
    • grow the e-books program
  • Develop and maintain a positive strategic orientation with the Board of Managers
  • Monitor trends in adjacent markets and position the organisation to take advantage of these trends
  • Seek to enhance and protect AIP Publishing’s image, reputation, and assets.
  • Recruit, develop, inspire, and motivate a talented team of publishing professionals to enable AIP Publishing to thrive in a competitive global market for scientific information products and services

The CEO is a voting member of the AIP Publishing Board of Managers and is responsible for the overall operation and day-to-day management of AIP Publishing, LLC.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • University or college degree in physics or a related science is required
  • Advanced graduate degree and/or MBA is strongly preferred 
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, with at least 10 years of management experience in roles with direct accountability for both financial and operational performance of multiple units within a global, digital, publishing environment
  • Demonstrable senior leadership experience and a track record of success
  • Clarity of vision and sound professional judgment
  • Industry credibility that proves influential with outside stakeholders including the societies, agencies, etc., with which AIP Publishing needs to collaborate, coordinate, and partner.

As a Sales Manager, you are responsible for the entire sales process, from first customer contact to signed contract. Furthermore, you are expected to drive sales revenue through maintaining and developing strong relationships with current and new customers.

You will be responsible for selling solution software and professional services to new publisher prospects.

The role includes prospecting, meeting, negotiating, and closing deals. You will be self-motivated and have experience working with B2B sales.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of proven B2B solution selling/sales experience/Saas.
  • A proven track record in successfully prospecting, negotiating and closing SaaS sales.
  • Demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding quarterly and annual sales goals and quotas.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills in English and German.

HR/Talent Information Specialist

Our client, a leading academic publisher, requires a new HR/Talent Information Specialist who will support the People team in delivering high quality data analytics, investigating and using data to understand people trends across our global business.

Reporting to the Global HR Director this role will analyse and interpret data to help the team make decisions. You will be a curious individual, keen to understand challenges and use data to solve them. The role holder must be strong in spotting trends and issues, with an analytical mind and naturally excellent with analysing data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collate and analyse Talent Management data and provide reports for Global HRD, HR Management team, regional HR teams and Executive Leadership Team, identifying trends, areas of interest and opportunities for People related strategies.
  • Collect, collate and analyse data and provide reports on the effectiveness of People Strategy initiatives to support monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Developing more streamlined processes and reports for budgeting and planning to aid planned resourcing on an annual basis.
  • Support the People team to make data-based decisions using data as evidence of trends and areas of improvement.
  • Pull reports on absence management, recruitment and turnover to highlight areas for improvement.
  • Report on D&I data across the global business ensuring D&I best practice is being implemented and also compliance areas such as equal pay is realised.
  • Development of automation of People dashboards/reporting, system & process improvements and developing interfaces.
  • Liaise with finance to ensure that HR and finance people data and reporting are aligned.
  • Complete research and market analysis for external trends and influences.

Scientific Data Analyst

Our client, a global information provider, requires a new Scientific Data Analyst to support one of their main customers within Biopharmaceutical Scientific Intelligence.

We need someone with excellent knowledge of supporting innovative research and discovery environments and have a strong information science / data analytics background.

This can be a home based role, but will require you to be within 2 hours commutable distance from the the client and main customer in Boston Massachusetts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scientific literature searches & business information searches.
  • Gather, analyse and interpret data sets from internal and external sources. Present findings and relevant stakeholders.
  • Organise, prepare and deliver targeted results from multiple information sources in multiple formats.
  • Work with internal clients to determine research requirements and represent scientific expertise at the inter-departmental level.
  • Evaluate/recommend new information sources that might enhance the business strategy.
  • Support initiatives that are strategic to the department and broader organisational.

Skills & Experience:

  • Life Sciences experience is a must
  • 3 – 6 years' experience working in a scientific discipline preparing and presenting information analysis
  • Proficient in information science/data science principles
  • Experience working within therapeutic project teams
  • Experience with commercial tools or platforms like SpotFire/Tableau/Pipeline Pilot, and research techniques etc 
  • Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel

European Sales Director

Our client, a global library software provider for research libraries and higher education, requires a new European Sales Director.

The European Sales Director for Enterprise and Education sales is responsible for establishing relationships and acquiring customers with a primary focus on higher education research, higher education instruction and secondary focus on industry, healthcare and government research.

The successful candidate will establish relationships with key decision makers in targeted organisations in scientific research functions, scientific instruction, instruction support, research and instruction administration and IT.

You will be responsible for generating leads and managing the sales process in order to acquire new customers. We are seeking sales professionals who have a strong record of success managing and achieving sales goals. This role is UK/European territory and will operate from a home office with frequent travel to customer institutions

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and enterprise level sales experience with scientific software to the academic & research markets.
  • Experience selling enterprise SaaS based solutions within a complex sales process.
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of company products as well as the needs of science instruction at the university level & research data management in academic/ government/corporate and research.
  • Able to operate in a team selling environment and engage high-level decision makers.
  • Strong record of establishing relationships with new accounts and hitting performance objectives.
  • High level of enthusiasm.
  • Strong selling and negotiation skills.
