Our client, a leading Open Access/STM Publisher, requires a new Marketing Manager with experience within academic publishing.

The Marketing Manager role is key to engaging a broad academic audience and communicating the company's brand and values. Working with the operations, editorial and the wider team, you will manage day-to-day activity across the company marketing channels, create engaging content and campaigns, and shape the marketing strategy using a variety of media and formats.

This role requires an all round creative marketer, that likes to be hands-on in a face past environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and delivery of a clear and comprehensive marketing strategy
  • Be the marketing point of contact and support for Acquisitions Editors in the UK and Continental Europe
  • Define the right tools and channels to promote content
  • Create content that is timely, relevant and engaging
  • Oversee the paid social media and engagement strategy and identify opportunities to maximise impact
  • Working with the technology team, to be the point person on all content changes to the website
  • Write for the website, including news and blog content
  • Work with the communications team to agree messaging and to ensure it is appropriately used
  • Conduct regular market and competitor research and analysis
  • Manage the marketing and PR activity calendar
  • Assist in the organisation of events
  • Reports on all marketing, PR & social media activity

Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in science or with relevance to marketing
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Self-starter, quick learner, and ability to multi-task effectively
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills and deadline driven
  • Good experience/background/understanding of digital marketing

Publishing Editor – Medicine

Our client, a leading STM Publisher, requires a Publishing Editor with expertise in medicine to form part of a new team in London. 

You will be responsible for the success of a defined set of journals within a broad discipline group and you must be comfortable in handling topics outside of your specialism. The primary goal of this role will be to develop a close working relationship with members of the academic editorial boards to further develop the journals within the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management: 

  • Be the key point of contact for your Academic Editors and build a close working relationship with them
  • Prioritise journals for development and create as well as implement a strategy plan
  • Ensure journals are represented in relevant indexing services and prepare journals for acceptance by additional services
  • Develop knowledge of the research areas of your portfolio and use this knowledge to actively identify journal development opportunities
  • Work alongside your Academic Editors to increase journal visibility, submissions, and reputation within the field
  • Increase visibility and citations through commissioning and appropriate marketing

Special Issue Development: 

  • With the assistance of the Editorial Board, assess special issue proposals submitted to the journals within your portfolio
  • Give guidance to the lead guest editors to refine their call for papers
  • Support the lead guest editors in promoting their call for papers to prospective authors
  • Compile reports on the status of the special issues within your portfolio
  • Explore and implement methods to promote special issues once they are published

Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in the publishing industry
  • Degree in a relevant scientific discipline, ideally Medicine or Biomedicine.
  • Knowledge of peer review and the publishing process
  • An interest in Open Access publishing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail
  • A positive and proactive approach to problem-solving in daily tasks
  • Able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Experience of working in a start¬up and/or tech environment desirable

Senior Manager Product Marketing

Our client, a leading global Academic publisher with headquarters in Germany, requires a new Senior Manager Product Marketing.

Ideally based in Germany, however, we will consider UK and Boston USA, you will be responsible for leading the international Product Marketing team and are thus responsible for developing and implementing the marketing strategy. You will have the opportunity to develop creative campaigning solutions for authors, researchers and institutions to achieve their commercial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Professional and disciplinary leadership of the team of product marketers and regional marketers
  • Go-to-market planning: Creation and operationalization of a strategic international marketing plan across our products
  • Monitor all product-related marketing strategies and their international implementation
  • Maximizing market awareness and penetration of all product groups
  • Increasing marketing efficiency along KPIs and optimizing measures and processes
  • Continuous expansion of digital marketing
  • Active contribution to interdisciplinary digital product development, especially with the proofreading and the IT

Skills & Experience:

  • University degree, ideally in Marketing or Communication Science

Sales Manager

Our client, a rapidly growing business that provides communication services for academics and researches, requires a new Sales Manager. 

You will be responsible for sales of there new communications management service for research groups, which provides tools and insights to help departments, schools, units of assessment and research groups use their resources and budgets most efficiently as they pursue accelerated research engagement and impact. You will work closely with the Sales Director and team to build opportunities, and be responsible for developing and closing those opportunities to meet annual sales targets.

The role is based in the main Oxford office, though some remote working will be considered for the right candidate.

You will have proven experience of developing new business, ideally for a research-oriented service. You will be organized, driven, productive and can-do. You’ll be genuinely interested in keeping pace with new developments in scholarly communication and research assessment, and enthusiastic about connecting with researchers and the research management community. You will be a people person, focused on developing strong and honest relationships, a confident yet empathetic communicator (for example, comfortable with rigorous phone follow up, while sensitive to others’ communications preferences). You will be self-motivated and results-oriented.

Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years’ business development experience, preferably in a research / scholarly information or services organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to determine solutions for customers (consultative sales approach)
  • Enthusiasm for and understanding of new media, metrics and technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

You will work within the division that builds technology-enabled solutions that connect external and internal content across data sources, in contextually relevant ways, for greater content reach and accessibility.

You will use your extensive network of publishing professional, leaders and influencers to strengthen and deepen the company's relationships with the worlds leading publishers and information suppliers. You will interact with key stakeholders and will be responsible for developing new relationships across the territory. You will also ensure customer satisfaction, and identifying and nurture sales leads to grow revenue for the company and their publishing client.

You will be the account owner across the business and must possess superior problem-solving and follow-up skills to effectively and efficiently respond to a wide variety of client needs. As the account owner, the you will lead a cross-functional team of subject matter experts from a variety of  divisions, including but not limited to: New sales, Business Development, Software Account Management, Product Management, Data Engineering, Publisher Solutions, Customer Service, & Consulting Services.

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree Educated 
  • 8+ years in publishing/information industry with proven account management track record
  • Skilled at building relationships at all levels
  • Information industry experience and professional network in publishing is a must. 
  • Proven experience generating sales leads
  • Results-driven self-starter with proven record generating leads
  • Technical fluency with data services including analytics, semantic search, ontologies, content integration; fluency with content management and enterprise workflow tools preferred but not required
  • Self-confident, highly personable, reliable and well-organized
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, Skype, and other Microsoft office products
  • Experience building relationships with clients headquartered in and outside of the Europe/US
